Seventh National Development Plan 2006-2010 Republic of Maldives > Overview
The overall strategic objective of the National Development Plan is that Maldives reaches the socio-economic goals set out in the Vision 2020 exercise. This is divided into six sub-objectives:
reduce vulnerability and poverty through human development and wider employment opportunities;
improve access to opportunities and services through regional development and population and development consolidation;
achieve development beyond pre-tsunami levels though rapid recovery and reconstruction;
promote good governance through strengthening legal, administrative and political institutions and civil society;
promote sustainable and equitable economic and social development through economic diversification and promotion of corporate social responsibility; and
strengthen family values and national unity through social, cultural and religious harmony.
The NDP is being prepared in 8 phases:
